Christmas Dressing

Thursday, 22 December 2016
It's not often that I can convince Gus to get himself on the blog so as much as he's 99.9% responsible for my photos, he rarely makes an appearance. So when Mr Porter and Net A Porter asked me to show you what we're wearing for Christmas I had to twist his arm (perhaps literally) ...

Neither of us really plan outfits, we're busy people and relish putting on whatever is washed/available at the weekends. Both of us swear by the jeans-jacket-and-shirt mantra when we do have to dress up so we used this as a bit of an opportunity to try something new. We also thought we'd give coordinating a go, as unnoticeably as possible (I was desperate to do a Britney and Justin denim pairing, but he was less keen...).

outfit credits at the base of this post

My first pick was a classic I've been after for years. Everyone bangs on about J Crew cashmere and I'd never joined the party... Until now. My camel knit is butter-soft, I'll wear it with everything over Christmas for sure. They come in a gazillion colours but I picked camel/taupe as it goes with all my blues, blacks and greys - and looks super with denim. Find it here.

Now that I'm hooked, above is a selection of my favourite J Crew cashmere pieces. My one is here, I also love the grey version here. The black one is, for some unknown reason, half price in the sale here. Next for me will be a v-neck purchase. I really want to treat myself to this one (again in the sale) as I've got an outfit in my head with it over a blue denim shirt, black skinny jeans and heels. Thoughts? Lastly if you're after an entry-point price, this light blue turtleneck is less than £80...

outfit credits at the base of this post

My skirt is from a brand that I've never bought from before called Mes Demoiselles. The inspiration behind the collection is "Parisian, bohemian, traveller." Essentially Marant for cheaper... I thought I'd try wearing a maxi skirt in winter, they're usually something I reserve for sunshine to pair with vest tops. Not anymore, this is proving to be perfect. It's dress-up enough to look like you've made an effort, without being over done. Most importantly it's comfortable AF and in the sale so it's only £114 ... Find it here.

My shoes are from Jimmy Choo, and it's complete love. It takes a lot for me to venture away from my  L.K.Bennett (which are so, so comfortable for my little feet) so if I'm endorsing heels, please know they really must be quite good. They're a classic shape and style, find them here. I was worried they were a bit Middleton-like but actually they go super well with everything and don't look stuffy at all on the foot. I'll own these for life...

outfit credits at the base of this post

Now to over to him... I've wanted him to get this jumper for bl**dy ages. It's from Club Monaco, a brand I think really doesn't get enough attention. It's part of the Ralph Lauren group and didn't really launch in the UK till last year when it's flagship store opened in London. All their stuff is amazingly good (see the womens here, and mens here). Gus is a "I'll buy them in bulk from Uniqlo" kind of shopper so spending this amount on a knit took some doing. Given that it hasn't left his body since it arrived, I'm guessing he feels it was worth the investment. It's excellent for cuddling in too, as a side. Find it here.

Above are a few of my favourite mens' bits from Club Monaco, incase you were searching for a gift still... This denim shirt is gorgeously soft, but super well fitted (I don't mean "tight" when I say that, I mean as it actually fits the shoulders). This cardigan is actually more like a bomber jacket as it's so warm; a really good buy for anyone who wants to invest in a couple of good staples but doesn't want to go too fashion. Lastly this jumper reminds me of Jude Law in The Holiday so I'm hoping that memory stays in place when I see someone (Gus, duh) in it...

outfit credits at the base of this post

He picked himself a pair of Grenson Chelsea Boots which he's always wanted, here. I tease him for how "city boy on a weekend" they are but actually I really like them. Before now he's always had cheapies that he replaces every few months, again I think he's learning this isn't really the way forward. Pay peanuts, get monkeys... They'd be a solid present for someone who likes a classic (go half a size down, they come up big). Find them here.

outfit credits at the base of this post

The scarf is the all-star purchase. I haven't told him how much it was, yet. I made him get it because I want to wear it too... It's a proper "gift" - a proper treat of a present. Sticking with the idea of peanuts and monkeys this is a billion times better than any high street equivalent. It's so warm you can almost forgo a coat when wearing it. I've got my eye on the camel coloured version, although I know he'd pinch it as he's addicted to his one. Find the navy one here, be warned - they sell out fast...

Marylebone High Street

Sunday, 6 November 2016
As you may have seen from my Instagram last week I popped down to Jaeger's new Marylebone High Street store to see what all the fuss was about. You've probably already caught onto the fact that Jaeger have seriously upped their fashion-game this season. Everyone in the industry is wearing them at the moment (check out their full collection here) particularly outerwear pieces like this coat and this knit.

outfit details and links at the base of this post

For me Jaeger represents British luxury, and always has. I can remember Mum wearing a gorgeous navy, long coat from there and that she was very proud to own it. Something about that has been instilled in my brain ever since. My sister worked for the group a few years ago when it was going through a bit of an odd stage - with fusion line Boutique (now no longer) filling a gap which US brands like Kate Spade later took over. So Jaeger needed a rethink and after new ownership and creative direction the brand is back with a vengeance with some amazingly good (and not scarily priced) staples.

Three categories you can't afford miss are;

Coats = I was away with a friend last weekend and fell in love with her teddy fur coat. The quality of it is just incredible, and I just wanted to cuddle up in it the whole time. Whilst most definitely an investment price point, I don't doubt you'll have this for life. This Alpaca wool one is incredible too, not to mention my own pick - a very classic trench coat for a fraction of the cost of others of similar quality.

Donna Ida Collaboration = I Instagrammed about this earlier this year (here, in case you missed it). The entire collection is worth a good snoop (I really recommend the black wool tops, and am the proud owner of this one) and if you're looking for a new blue denim try their Mia jean out.

Knitwear = The entire high street has really upped it's jumper-game this season so the fact that Jaeger still stands out says a lot about their collection. I need my knits to be soft, cozy but also sturdy - as a dog owner and being slightly clumsy with coffee I need to not freak out when life's little accidents happen. For this, Jaeger is perfect. I'm lusting after this one that everyone (including Emma, below) owns. For £150 I cannot begin to explain how much I need this...

outfit details and links at the base of this post

Blogging can sometimes be a bit of a lonely job as affectively you work for yourself, often at home alone. So it was really nice to be able to be alongside friends on this project particularly when you have to have your photo taken on a busy London street. Emma had just finished her photos when I turned up, so we had a few taken together. Sadly for me she's a foot taller than me and a hell of a lot more elegant. The snap above was the best pic of the bunch, which says it all...

outfit details and links at the base of this post

I'm not a natural in front of the camera (I get really moody with myself and usually end up storming off leaving my poor boyfriend clueless in the middle of a mews street somewhere) and struggle to get poses right or anything of that sort.

So I took a light hearted approach and goofed around on some steps. Turns out shots from those moment were my favourite - and helps to show how comfortable I was in the trench coat. Although it is super tailored and a structured fabric it's really easy to wear. Also, having sat and compared it to other much more expensive ones my friends have I really think it's exceptional value for the quality and craftsmanship, find it here.

outfit details and links at the base of this post

To be specific about my outfit, I chose a cropped wool knit here to wear underneath my coat as I want to try out wearing it with shirts and jeans, and also to go with pencil skirts. I forgot to take a snap of the details but it has really cool wide/bell sleeves - have a look here. My scarf isn't on the site yet but has arrived in stores (an excuse to have a peek at the new one in Marylebone) and the aforementioned denims are called the Mia jean and are so soft/light I kept worrying they were falling off because I couldn't feel them on anymore! Lastly, the tote bag is going to be my new every day one, love how simple it is and it goes with everything.

Obonjan

Thursday, 22 September 2016

If you follow me or any sort of similar blogger/influencer on Instagram (pssst follow me here) you'll already know about Obonjan. In fact you probably got a bit sick of it last month as we all pranced around the island looking all relaxed and boho. Problem is, I don't think this is an issue that'll go away in years to come. Forget Ibiza, forget Mykonos, this place is going to be the next "it" destination.

Other reviews have had a mixed opinion, and in truth mine will be no different. This year was Obonjan's opening launch after five years redevelopment and planning. There were some issues, mainly around service and food supplies - but if that was year 1, the years to come really are going to be quite special...

We arrived in Obonjan after a flight to Split, a taxi transfer over to Sibernik (which I've just learned has a super cool new boutique hotel called The Admiral Zaton in which I'm so annoyed I didn't know about as I'd love to have spent more time there) where we waited for about an hour for our boat to the island.  We had read Monica's post here and got the sense it might be an idea to take a few supplies over, so the time in town was perfect to stock up on snacks, water and a few beers.

Our boat transfer was only about 30 minutes and very exciting, perhaps a little too much as it was so windy and therefore pretty bumpy. I first visited Croatia last year and fell in love with it, Gus had been before too on Yacht Week carnage a sailing holiday and we both itching to get out to sea.

Outfit credits at the base of this post

Upon arrival, we were shown to our accommodation. We stayed in a 2 person Forest Lodge and were hugely impressed. More than anything their positioning is ideal; you essentially look straight out to sea. We had a proper (very comfortable) bed, the finishing was great and our own little deck spot for infinite selfie taking sunbathing.

I'd read up a bit on the options on the island and there seemed to be much debate about the difference between Forest Lodges and Bell Tents so let me explain; Bell Tents are still just as nice and exactly the same quality. The core difference is that they are based inland so you don't have the views, and they don't have their own bathrooms, which the lodges do and are very good. As someone who doesn't camp well at all, I can honestly say I'd be more than happy in a Bell Tent. The communal bathrooms are clean, spacious and much more "hotel" than "camping."

Having settled in we went for a little explore. Obonjan is the name for the entire island, but only a third so far has been developed (which is very exciting). Croatian beaches are never sandy, so the team have turned the old port into one, large sunbathing spot. Cool house music plays out in the afternoons, and what I liked most about the whole holiday were the other guests - we met some brilliant people who were all very much up for a beer together, a diving competition, or a late night hunt for more booze...

The main "beach" is located next to the Zen Den (more on that later) and has great bean bags and umbrellas up ready for you - although a few more would have been handy. The water is almost laughable, it's just so clear and fun to swim it. Also very, very salty so you can just float around all day if you really wanted to...

For those that don't, there is plenty to do. I firmly recommend the morning yoga sessions (when we'd managed to get to bed in time to get up for it) and I wish I'd done one of the island runs as they sound fantastic. Similarly day trips and excursions run from the harbour which we didn't do, had we been staying for longer we'd most definitely have taken the one to the waterfalls as everyone we met who had been raved about it...

In the evenings Obonjan comes alive. It's still finding it's feet in terms of where to put things, mainly because it has so many options between the various amphitheatres, old buildings and stages - but you can't say there wasn't something to keep you busy every night. We watched some excellent comedy (look up Ivo Graham and Chris Martin as they're very much "on the circuit" in the UK, and ace) and bopped our brains out to people like Mr Scruff and the DJs behind the Chef soundtrack (if you don't know it, download it) by the pool.

Outfit credits at the base of this post

A good thing about the island is it's somehow managed to attract hipsters and the like, without the d*ck head connotations. At no point did I care about what I was wearing and quite frankly was annoyed I'd worked myself up so much about it. I'm not a natural boho dresser so stocked up on Pampelone dresses here, Topshop boho tops (this one, lush) and bought-yesterday-but-look-old denim shorts from vintage shops, and these...

Purchasing linen towels has been one of the most sensible buys of 2016. They dry quicker and double up as throws, picnic surfaces, table clothes... Ours are from Frescobol Carioca, here. Ooh and somewhere here will be a snap of my Andy Pandy (my nickname due to love of stripes) trousers that I bought in Berlin and lived in. They're from Leon and Harper who I really recommend you take a look at... Find them here.

Outfit credits at the base of this post

Other excellent buys were my Topshop mini dress here, discovering and obsessing over Storets purchases like my off shoulder pom pom top here and black and white dress here - none of which I can't stop wearing (but will soon have to as Winter Is Coming) and surprise summer steals from the Bimba y Lola sale like my neon sandals here and Havaianas (new for this year) flipflop/espadrilles here.

It was also the perfect place to wear my ridiculous wonderful sunglasses. Man repeller they may be but I love, love, love my leopard print, Fendi ones, the Jimmy Choo's have been everywhere with me this summer, and finally the blue mirrored, Fendi are brilliant - if nothing else Gus' reaction when I put them on is epic...

To give you an idea of a day there, we'd wake up and make our way over to one of the two breakfast places; either a buffet style - not my favourite - place by the pool, or a slightly more avo-and-eggs spot by the port. Food was really good, when they had it. Delivery of supplies was clearly an issue and I'm sure will be fine next year... We'd then sit by the pool and have a swim for a few hours, most likely with an Aperol.

Afternoons were for napping, more sunbathing by the beach and once the temperature came down, a little yoga. We'd then pop over to one of the bars and have some drinks with new found friends, or swim whilst the sun goes down. After dinner (really good grub, same supply issue, but very good all the same) we'd head over to either the amphitheatre or the forest bar to set into some music, or go back to our tents and muck around playing Cards Against Humanity or watch back to back Narcos episodes... You really can choose how much you want to do, we had lazy day and crazy days...

Outfit credits at the base of this post

Weather wise, ours was mixed which makes us a good advert/benchmark. The first few days were incredibly windy - to the point one of the restaurants couldn't open. It just meant we got creative, as did Obonjan. They moved the locations of their events/acts and we just got on with it. It actually felt like a really cool team effort, and bar the odd grumble everyone was really happy. Once the winds went away, Obonjan came alive. We were surprised how much we felt it, because we were pretty happy already.

Outfit credits at the base of this post

Obonjan is a brand new concept so I'd go with your brain clear, ready to experience something different. If you go with preconceptions or mind-made comparisons to other resorts you'll only be a bit confused when you arrive - there isn't really anywhere else like it. Here are a few things you might find useful to bear in mind:
  1. Obonjan isn't really a "wellness experience" or at least not as it currently stands. Think of it more as "yoga in the day, tequila in the night." There just aren't enough food options to validate it being in any way a fitness or dieting holiday, and I very much doubt you can avoid the music (and therefore drinking) events going on in the evening as they're so much fun
  2. If you aren't happy with something, ask someone. The Obonjan team were brilliant with the minor problems we had (bugs in rooms, no crockery, etc) and sorted it out for us in no time.
  3. Expect to spend money. Obonjan promotes itself as a cashless island but in reality what that means is you top up an arm band and then spend freely without thinking. We were surprised at some of the costs for drinks and food, which if we were in charge we'd probably take down a notch. That said if you go knowing that, no problem.
  4. Bother to book into a massage as it was possibly the best one I've ever, ever had. I wish I'd kept the lady's card because I'd like her in my life more - she brought my shoulders back to reality in minutes.
  5. Talk to people - they're interesting. Don't be all British and shy, the person next to you is going to be cool, interesting and an excellent dinner/dancing partner later on that evening...
  6. Take bug spray. Oh my god. So many people have complained about this but lets be real for a moment; the island was uninhabited a few months ago so wildlife has had free reign. Expect the odd spider, caterpillar and mozzy. Take spray, close your tent when you're not in it - sorted.
  7. Visit the gift shop, because it's really well done. Whoever curated the clothing and beauty ranges needs a high five fat ten. I loved seeing brands I knew (Pampelone and Skin and Tonic) mixed in with new things to discover.
  8. Try and make the girl in the Pizza stand smile. I swear to God she never has, and it's kind of funny. I deliberately turned up five minutes before closing time (3am) with a massive order just to see her death stare reaction.

We stayed for four nights, which I reckon is perfect. As great time as we were having, by day 4 we were ready for some silence. The music does go on late and people can choose to go on much later if they wish to, so the ear plugs in the room were an unsung god send. I'd recommend then heading off to take a couple of days in Split, or even sailing down to Dubrovnik or doing a bit of an island hop.

Outfit credits at the base of this post

Overall what an incredible experience. I'll be back next year for sure. We loved going as a couple as we're pretty sociable and as much as we love each other's company by about day 3 we kind of want some time to ourselves, so this was perfect. For that reason it would be great to go with a bunch of people too, or even stop off there whilst doing a sailing trip (you'd have to check you can moor up, but I can't see that being an issue). See you there.

My outfit list is below, and find out more about Obonjan for 2017 by clicking here.

Friday Feeling

Friday, 17 June 2016
Today is a slow one... Last night I went to see Coldplay with the girls and Marks and Spencer - am feeling the midnight espresso martini decision... The only win is remembering I bought this jumpsuit from ASOS which I am going to rename The Most Comfortable Item Of Clothing That Ever Dared Exist.

outfit credits at the base of this post

I cannot explain to you how much I love wearing this, literally the most comfortable thing in the world ever. It's super soft and the really relaxed fit means you sort of lose all worries about arms, tums and bums... if I could wear it everyday I 110% would. I bought mine true to size (this is a size 10) but could probably have dropped to a smaller one if I'd wanted to as it's very roomy - depends how you want to wear it...

outfit credits at the base of this post

I threw my hair up and didn't even check myself in the mirror before these photos so apologies for the bedraggled-ness... I kind of thought that if I hid my eyes under my new Jimmy Choo sunglasses I'd get away with it. They're so sparkly and shiny I'm hoping all attention is directed to them and not my face... They are most definitely an investment (find them here) but I found these ones from Jeepers Peepers at ASOS that'll do the trick for under £25, or these for SIX POUNDS...

outfit credits at the base of this post

I wore my box fresh new trainers, which I am a bit obsessed. It's the first time I've ever had non-sport-brand trainers. They're from Iris and Ink and it's love. I'd been pining after a pair of Isabel Marant or Saint Laurent ones for months but when my friend showed me these I instantly knew I had to have them. Such good value, love the ostrich skin effect and really comfy from the beginning. Iris and Ink haven't done footwear for long but the collection is awesome, find it all here.

outfit credits at the base of this post

My bag is new from Reiss here... I struggle with finding good mini bags that are pale coloured and needed one for events over the summer (most of mine are all dark colours which doesn't look right at weddings). I really like the fringing as it adds a little something to an otherwise very plain and simple blue suede tote...

In case you missed it, sales started properly this week. Have a look at my edit here. Whatever you're doing this weekend, I hope you have a great one. We are spending the whole 2 days enjoying our new area and unpacking the final boxes... Loving being back in North London!

Weekend Mornings In Marrakech

Friday, 20 May 2016
outfit details at the base of this post

Those of you who follow any of us on Instagram will already know that last weekend Emma, Lindsey and I went on a 2 night break to Morocco. Just us girls, and it was bliss (find the content here should you wish). We were hosted at the Royal Mansour, which we expected to be a little bit wonderful given that the King himself helped to build it, but I don't think we were quite prepared for quite how incredible our riads (yep, we had one each) were going to be...

outfit details at the base of this post

These snaps were taken on our first morning, from my very own rooftop balcony complete with plunge pool. Privacy is at the heart of the hotel, so the idea is that guests can enjoy all the benefits of a luxury hotel stay whilst remaining in their own "home." One thing I really love to when I'm away is have breakfast outside, so I rallied the girls to mine and got on with ordering breakfast.

The breakfast menu has it's own leather bound cover to give you an idea, and when the food arrived it didn't disappoint. Fresh pastries, smoked salmon and granola = the perfect start to a packed day of sight seeing and shooting - we all have some really super outfits to share with you as part of a collaboration to show you our holiday wardrobe, so stay tuned!

outfit details at the base of this post

My holiday style is very relaxed; I don't like to be wearing anything tight fitting if we're walking around in the heat! I found this top from Iris and Ink a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. It's comfortable (softest cotton) and I love the detailing - it looks like it's a lot more expensive than it is, which is always a win...  My shorts are years old from Bloomingdales in New York, I have no idea what brand they are but if you're after similars Urban Outfitters here is always a good start. And, I've had lots of you asking about my espadrilles. They're actually from Havainas (so they have a rubber sole) and are possibly the most genius summer shoe I've ever come across, find them here.

After filling my boots with breakfast and caffeine, I was set for the day (as the below shot shows...). It really was the perfect start to the perfect girls' weekend. I've got plenty more outfit shots and tips of where to go in Marrakech to come in the coming weeks, it really was too good to pop into one solitary outfit post.
