Wednesday's Girl
Obviously you shouldn't rely on one store for options, so I've had a look around and picked out my favourites starting with more expensive ones and working my way through to high street. Here are some unintentionally black/navy ones as I find them really easy to wear - pair them up with leather jackets and trainers for day time, and coats and smart ankle boots for the evenings. Ganni features heavily (I own this one and love it), it's just her £200 which I don't mind spending from time to time when the colours are so neutral. I know I'll wear it again and again.
navy floral dress / polka dot dress / gold and navy dress / navy with colour bits dress / floral with stripe / navy with daisies
It's really worth checking out Whistles for this kind of thing and don't be mistaken for thinking the brand is uber expensive still (what on earth were they thinking 6 seasons ago when everything was over £300...). I found this one at Selfridges in the sale, a bargain at half price. This one from Michael Kors is stunning, stunning. Perfect for Christmas parties for people who don't know what to wear.
This Me + Em dress is gorgeous, I spotted it on a lady on the tube a few weeks ago and asked her where it was from. I seem to be the only influencer on the planet who doesn't wear this brand every day - I think this dress might be the push I needed. For a little bit more colour, RIXO is great. This one is brilliant and a new shape for them. Previously I found the brand pretty fatt-ist - I couldn't get into their dresses, but this seems to have improved.

Favourite Maxi Dresses For Autumn
Monday, 5 November 2018
Ok, so it's been a while. What can I say? Life was busy. But, I'm back in the game and completely spurred on by the fact it's autumn. I bl**dy love this time of year especially living in North West London. I'm back from a walk with my parents and the dog, wandering down streets with pretty pumpkins and reddy orange leaves. Absolute bliss.
Any way, back on to the proper stuff. Autumn is my favourite time to both wear and buy clothes. After what felt like a forever-long summer sale retailers are starting to react to the colder weather and the new season feels really exciting. I have quite a bit already so never go crazy, but I've added in a few keys pieces.

my dress / rust silk dress / velvet black dress / balloon sleeved dress / black and red maxi / square necked dress
One thing I have discovered from this year is that I love wearing maxi dresses and don't want to give that up in the colder weather. So I've got myself a couple of long sleeved maxi dresses (a few more will feature on the blog in coming weeks) including this one from And Other Stories. I absolutely love this brand for their dresses, I must have 3 or 4 now. They always fit me so I can shop online (European sizing, so 38 is a 10, 40 is a 12, etc) and they're always a decent quality and under £100. My ones from three years ago are still going strong too. I've put my favourites from them this season above.

Lets talk about printed dresses because they're the easiest to wear. They do all the talking, pair them up with a basic coat and boats and off you go... Now I mentioned high street before but for maxi dresses in particular I really want to give an enormous shout out to ASOS' own brand stuff. It's really, really good and lots of them are under £40. I've bought two from them and been really impressed with the quality for the price, so I thought with that confidence in the price points I'd check out and see what else they have. 45 minutes later, I'm back to report it all to you...!

space print RIXO style dress / two tone RIXO style dress / spotted Rouje style dress / side button RIXO and Rouje style dress / leopard print dress / navy polka dot reformation style
In fact, I mentioned RIXO before, there are so many very similar ones on ASOS. I'm always a little bit on the fence when it comes to obvious copies but I guess nobody owns space-print, right? This dress is awesome and £40. Equally, Insta-brands like Lily and Lionel, Rouje and Reformation are kind of asking to be copied. I own a Rouje dress and have to say, I haven't found a high street alternative that matches the quality of them (they're epic, check them out here) but their distinctive side-button thing is now hitting stores across the board. This ASOS dress is near on identical cut and print wise, and £120 cheaper. Above are my favourite, tasteful copy cat dresses. Finally this leopard print dress is so good for £38 and love the cut - very flattering.

Lets also have a moment for Mango. I'd like to high five whoever the person was who worked for them who recognised that their brand was going down the toilet, and decided to completely overhaul it and make it good again. I popped onto their site just to get one dress idea and ended up bookmarking 25 and buying two. FFS. Above are my favourites, and a couple of slipped into the edit below too. This one is a dead ringer for a Ganni dress, and this one is almost identical to another Rouje style but arguably in a better colour way...

Here's a round up of some plainer style I've found. The idea here is to be able to wear them to work with tights and boots in winter, and possibly to work as most would work with a jacket on top too. I absolutely love how throw-on they all are. Most of them don't even require ironing which is a total win. My favourite two are this navy Monki shirt dress (also would look awesome with a basic jumper on top with the collar poking out, and this comfy-as-hell wool-sweater dress.
navy shirt dress / grey sweater dress / green khaki dress / navy collar shirt dress / black maxi dress
This one is on sale, reduced to £35, and would be super for work. This green khaki dress is a brilliant colour for paler, autumnal skin tones and looks great. Ooh and I challenge anyone not to feel good in this. Flattering waist, great neckline, good price point. You're welcome. Finally, these two Marks and Spencer basics will be old faithfuls in no time. This black one is brilliantly easy to wear, and this blue one (comes in various colours) is great for anyone worried about losing their shape in a maxi dress.

Top 10 Ride Or Die Skincare Products
Friday, 2 November 2018
Right, here goes the blog post I've been meaning to write for about 3 years. Last weekend whilst doing an enormous sort out of my flat I finally managed to put together a list of "can't live without" products for you. Moving forward, this kind of content will sit on my YouTube - I've got an enormous list of reviews, topics and top 10s to get through from the feedback you gave me from Instagram. There are already some good recommendations there, my "favourite face masks video" is very good if I may say so... Check out my channel here and expect exciting things to come.
So here are my top 10 best ever, can't function if I don't own, skincare products. It took some serious decisions and I do obviously have more to add to the pile. But when I really sat down and thought about out it these are my go-to things whenever I have a particular issues or want a particular results. Also, I cheated there are 14. Sorry. It's a long one so settle in, I'll list them by their name and purpose so you can scan through at your own leisure. Ooh and I have absolutely no idea if any of the below are vegan. I know they don't test on animals. As awful as it sounds, I choose my products purely on results (must do better)... Lets go!
1. Rodial Dragon's Blood Sculpting Moisturiser - Anti Aging, Firming, Plumping...
I find it hard not to just go "they're amaaaaaaaazing" when it comes to Rodial products. I'm a fairly recent convert, I started using them a year ago. Before that I found the brand a bit intimidating and now knowing more about them that's kind of what I love about them. The brand is bold, results driven and works. Simple. My sister and I swear by this moisturiser. It brightens, it plumps (plumping doesn't mean you look fat by the way, it means it pushes out fine lines and makes everything look like it did when you were 24). It's a great texture, and if I've been using it for 3 or 4 days I start to get compliments. It's not cheap but neither should it be, this product is worth the investment.
2. L'Occitane Immortelle Night Serum - Revitalising and collagen boosting..
Before this I wouldn't have thought of this brand for skincare at all, more trusty hand creams and super scents. I first tried this serum back in June and was instantly taken with it as was the whole team in the office. We were so gobsmacked by the results, we ran a campaign at work where we asked a few influencers to try it out over 30 days and simply post the results. Everyone loved it and looked a billion times better. It works. Don't ask me why it does, but there is a little used hero ingredient in this stuff; marjoram. It essentially wakes up lazy, tired skin cells and makes them work again. The formula also is massively collagen stimulating too (collagen is the "firmer" in our skin cells that, when full and plump, won't age) which is just quite brilliant.
3. Elizabeth Arden Retinol Capsules - Anti wrinkle, firming, hydrating...
Ok, I'm going to attempt to explain retinol in my picked-up-along-the-way best manner. Essentially it's a wrinkle smoother, and highly sensitive to light and air. For that reason, only use at night as it may cause a flair up during the day. But our skin can only really benefit from it if it's "ripe and ready" so Arden (the first brand to launch retinols into the market, and the complete experts) have painstakingly created the formulation (including ceramide) to ensure our skin drinks all the benefits up. I cannot rate this enough, I use them once or twice a week before bed instead of a night moisturiser. Also, this product is too strong for your eyes - hence the product below for that.
4. Beauty Pie Retinol Eye Cream - Removes fine lines, crows feet, etc
Fancy paying less than £7 for a product worth £65 elsewhere? If you haven't heard of Beauty Pie, please get out of the cave you're living in and click here. Yes I work with them, but yes I'm also a fully fledged, fully paying member and squeak with excitement every month when my spending allowance kicks in. It's just genius. GENIUS. For £10 a month (Ok, I have the £20 membership because I need all the skincare) you can get all the best formulations - instead of ripping you off with crazy mark ups (did you know 90% of the price of a beauty product can be mark up to cover advertising, packaging etc?) Beauty Pie makes it's money from charging for membership. Take my money now. There are a couple of Beauty Pie products in this edit and I won't go through the concept again, but if you fancy having a go you can get £50 extra spending allowance with my code ANNASENTME.
Their retinols are from the same places as all of the luxury grade brands. So, it's not that it's similar, it's that it's the same. In fact, sometimes their products are better because they are so well respected in the industry the labs call them first. This eye cream is the NUTS and the formulation is second to none with equal measures of hyaluronic acid to ensure it really penetrates the skin properly. I've been using it for a month the start of crows feet have disappeared. Like, actually gone. Buy it. That is all.
5. Sunday Riley Luna Serum - Anti aging, firming, depuffing...
Sunday Riley have had a lot of flack recently which is a shame because they're really very good. Hailing from Australia, in my mind the climate means brands that come from there really understand about products that can repair the skin from sun damage/life. I've been using this for over a year now, I have no idea whats in it but can tell you I wake up looking much, much better. It also smells like playdough and it bright blue - the child in me really enjoys that. It's not cheap, but once again neither should it be, it works. My skin looks brighter, almost as if it's been buffed.
6. Balance Me Collagen Boosting Serum - Specifically for wrinkles
Ok, so I lied when I said I didn't know if products were vegan. Balance Me's whole identity is natural beauty. I hate to admit it but for that reason I sort of ignored them for years; assuming "natural" meant "ineffective." However, this product proved me wrong and I'm now enjoying testing a load of stuff from the brand. I use this alongside the serums below when I don't have a collagen booster going on my skin from a moisturiser. It's really very good and an absolute steal for £26. It also has blackberry leaf in it, so this product is good for anyone who heavily commutes or lives in the city as it's a brilliant ingredients for protection against fumes and environment damage.
7. Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum - For the summer glow all year round
One of the challenges of this post was not putting in half a ton of Derma products. I can't explain how good they are and if anyone I know has a skin complaint I send them off to a Dermalogica counter to have their skin mapped (essentially analysed by one of their specialists, their free service). I was so, so late to the game and swear by 10+ of their products but one thing I think they do really well is Vitamin C stuff.
I swear by this in darker months because it means I keep that "summer glow." The formulation means the vitamin C is really able to get into the skin and works its magic - I think it's the best C serum out there and I've tried a lot. It also has Palitoyl in it, great for anti aging. I use this almost as a barrier cream alongside my SPF in the morning - in fact I often mix them together.
8. Malin and Goetz Sulphur Paste - For spot removal, overnight
Moving on to spot removers... Simply dab a tiny bit of this on a spot, you'll look like you've put toothpaste on your skin, and wake up and it'll have if not gone - massively reduced. I use it on hormonal break outs and those random red clangers that appear from nowhere. Some critics say you can get sulphur over the counter in a drug store but quite frankly I don't want anything other than a meticulously formulated product when the made ingredient is also used to solder off paint in house renovations. I've had my little bottle for 2 years too, so it goes a long way.
9. The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc Serum - For speeding up hormonal breakouts, broken pores and as a decongestant.
Say what you like about their bat sh*t crazy owner, but when all the stuff went down with the Ordinary a couple of weeks ago sales for this product went up 3000% out of fears it would no longer exist. This serum, for me, stops hormonal meltdowns and also really helps stop stubborn blackheads around my nose where my pores were a teeny bit enlarged. Very good for stressed skin too. Did I mention it's £5? Buy it here, by the truckload.
10. Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Glow Tonic - Liquid exfoliator for deep cleans
The final zit-buster product is a goodie. Rodial's little sister Nip+Fab benefits from all the expertise from it's older sibling, but as a fraction of the price. Aimed at the teenage market, it means you can expect quick results (because name me a 16 year old with any patience) at a decent RRP. People get nervous of the word "acid" but if you're happy to swallow a load of vinegar on your chips then how can you not be happy to use a carefully balanced formulation on your skin? Glycolic is a liquid exfoliator, I use this when I've been on the tube a lot, travelling or just want a good old thorough clean out. What's really good about this product in particular is that it's balanced with hyaluronic acid meaning, firstly your skin doesn't dry out and secondly it allows the acid to work it's magic even more deeply. Strongly recommend.
11. Beauty Pie Apricot Butter Cleansing Balm - Cleansing, softening, moisturising
Firstly, if you aren't into a cleansing balm as you're worried about it being too oily for your skin think again. Oil based cleansers are actually what you need. Oil attracts oil, meaning balms like this pull the grease out from your pores. Plus, this is £13 so a really good one to test (see how and why in the other Beauty Pie mention above).
It smells good enough to eat. Truly. It has all the buzz words in for when it comes to moisturising; rosehip (anti flammatory), vitamin E and apricot. Furthermore, it is really good for getting into the pores and removes residue. I absolutely love it, going from my Elemis Collagen Balm which I use just as much. When I use the Beauty Pie one I use the Balance Me collagen cream (above) afterwards as a replacement to the Elemis' ingredient and have to say I think it's actually better.
12. Kiehls Turmeric and Cranberry Mask - Depuffs, clears and gives glow
I love this product. Whats more I love telling other people about this product and then when they call me up and go "oh my god." If you're pulling all-nighters of either the work or play variety, you need this stuff. It buffs, tones, wakes up and boosts the skin. It is perfect for this time of year with central heating and cold weather. In fact, I've got it on as I type this. Just trust me on this one.
13. Clinique Vitamin E Overnight Moisturising Mask - Exactly what it says on the tin
I'd never have thought I'd still be such an avid Clinique fan at 34. I totally thought it was the "first" beauty brand for people, but I keep going back to their products (my make up faves comprise of a lot of Clinique) especially for quick fixes. Back to my theory about the impatience of teenagers meaning that brands who focus on this age range need to deliver quickly - their products really do work their magic. This one does overnight. I wake up looking refreshed and hydrated and my make up sits so much better on my skin for a good few days afterwards. Note, this product shouldn't be used around the eyes - it's too rich and will cause puffiness as the delicate skin tries to take in all the properties of it (common mistake for dry eyes; heavy moisturiser, it'll make them worse).
14. REN Glycolactic Mask - Radiance, holiday-rested skin
Saving my ultimate ride or die favourite product till last. I nearly had a heart attack last week when this went into the sale, not sure what I'd do without it (they currently have it on sale, here). I have a little joke with friends that I'm "off on holiday" when I put this on because that's exactly what it does. It makes you look alive, it makes you glow, it gets rid of dullness and fine lines. If I haven't done enough to convince you to stock up in this post, for god's sake go to a beauty counter and ask for a sample of this. I bet you £100 you'll go back for more. Get the full size here, or if you have no faith in me whatsoever they've done a little one for Marks and Spencer here.

Last week I did a poll on my Instagram asking the kind of content you wanted to see. I was really surprised how many of you want more career and work stuff, even going as far as advice which is immensely flattering. As much as when I look back each move I made has neatly led me to where I am now, it was never on purpose. It all started here, on South Molton Street.
When Lipault (pronounced "lee-po" for anyone wondering) opened a store here and asked me to spread the word, given how brilliant their back pack has been for my pretty manic lifestyle, I thought I'd pull it all together and write this post. They've just launched a collection in collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier, which is in store up until Christmas (possibly January).

If any one is wondering where the name came from, I worked really locally and used to walk to work down here everyday. Compared to the crazed hustle of Oxford Street, South Molton Street is a bit of a haven. As soon as you turn down here everything calms down. People look more relaxed, better dressed, they're friendly... It's a hugely noticeable difference from everything that surrounds it. It also, may I add, has brilliant shops. You can pretty much get everything you need on this road. When the Lipault team said they'd opened a store here it was no surprise, it suits them perfectly.
I live very close to their Hampstead store and had been oogling at a backpack for a few weeks. It sounds silly but now that I'm rushing around, usually with a dog in tow needing one arm - and an Oyster card needing the other - a backpack has become a bit of a must have. I scoured the market and had spotted this one whilst walking past the store, so it was all a bit serendipitous when this collaboration came up! Their "Parisienne" aesthetic is completely me, and such a favourite for the girls in France. In my last job before One Roof I used to travel to Paris almost weekly. Every time I stood in that taxi rank I'd see at least 5 Lipault luggage pieces and handbags...

So, how did it all happen? Back in 2011 I was recovering from an operation with my family. I had my gallbladder removed (super unusual at 26, and I'm pretty sure led to a lot of further problems, but that's another story) and was on bed rest for a month. After about four days I was going stir crazy and I had just got into things like Twitter and reading blogs (there was no Instagram and Pinterest) and decided I'd start my own. I can vividly remember getting 50 followers on Twitter and thinking "woah, this is getting quite big now." Oh, how ridiculous I was.
There was never a plan, there wasn't even the opportunity for a plan at that time. Every one who had a blog did it for the fun of it. I worked it around my day job, I didn't put my face on it for two years either. That wasn't a conscious decision, you just didn't have to then. Over time I moved into marketing roles and started to notice the disparity between the knowledge and requirements brands had when they wanted to partner with influencers, versus what influencers needed and wanted from campaigns when they paired up with them. Influencer marketing became exactly that; marketing.
backpack, Lipault / coat, Great Plains / dress, Zara / shirt, Olive (old) / shoes, Gucci
By this point I had moved to Vestiaire Collective and was working on their marketing, PR and social. It was a very different company then, there were 3 of us in London when I joined. My job was to help get the concept off the ground and essentially I went around the market trying to find an agency that could help me with influencers. I needed someone who could tell me why I was investing in certain influencers and what I could expect from it. I couldn't find one. It was a genuine roadblock, and meant I couldn't get sign off for any influencer work. I realised it was possible and to cut a long story short (fast forward two years and another period of ill health that once again inspired me to give it a go) and One Roof Social was born.
backpack, Lipault / coat, Great Plains / dress, Zara / shirt, Olive (old) / shoes, Gucci
I don't have any formal business experience, only what I'd taken from working for start ups. I also don't particularly have any empire dreams so I struggle to resonate with the majority of the "girl boss" crew. I know I want a nice house one day, but I don't need the yacht or the private jet - or the "fame" that so many entrepreneurs seem to crave. I also want 100 maltese terriers, but I'm pretty sure we'll just meet in a park one day and they'll follow me home at their own free will.
I started out working from my kitchen table, calling up brands I thought could do a better job with their influencer stuff and gradually it all built up. The fact I now have staff and an office and some brilliant clients is testament to the amazing people I have around me. It took a lot of time, a lot of all-nighters (not the fun kind) and a million coffees with friends and former colleagues with more experience than I had. I'm trying to create a company I want to work for, surrounded by people I want to work with. You've got to seriously believe in what you do because it's incredibly hard, I honestly think the reason so many small businesses fail is because people see an opportunity in a market and go for it - hoping for riches, rather than genuinely being passionate about what they're doing.
backpack, Lipault / coat, Great Plains / dress, Zara / shirt, Olive (old) / shoes, Gucci
Ok, so, here are 10 tips I wish I was given at the beginning:
1. Structure. Give yourself it. Seriously. Even if it is "yoga on Mondays" and "gin on Thursdays" thats OK. You will need it. I have two days a week where I do not leave my desk. It's particularly important when I have a team, but before all that it meant that I was never panicked about shoe horning actual work in between all the meetings and coffees you have at the beginning.
2. Be Humble. I will never trust a CEO who doesn't have staff. CEO of what exactly? Be open, honest and genuine with what you are trying to do - both to yourself and those around you. Rome wasn't built in a day. You'll learn to spot these people and avoid them like the plague. Don't be one of them. Take your time and never over exaggerate - especially to people who can actually help you.
3. Breathe. Rapid success doesn't come overnight, or at least long term success rarely does. Slow down, do things properly. As someone said to me recently "sh*t that travels at the speed of light is still sh*t." If it takes an extra three weeks for your website to go live, that really sucks. But when it does go live, it'll be better for it.
4. Meet people but don't rely on them. Look, lets say it out loud. There is a "type" of person that starts a business and thinks "I know so many people who can help me get this going." There lies their first mistake. List out people who's advice you can benefit from, and ask nicely if you can buy them a coffee/breakfast/gin to hear it. After that, it's down to you to take what they say and apply the stuff to your own strategy. Favour-asking, no matter how elaborate and covered-up, is really quite annoying. My friends who run businesses and I all have a rule; we pay each other for what we do and we don't take freebies. It's massively important. Also, if someone isn't able to meet you don't be offended or pester them - if they like your idea they'll come to you when they have time.
5. Keep some balance. For the benefit of your business' success, step away regularly. Go and have a drink with your best friend and allow yourself ten minutes to moan about work. Then stop. Talk about something else. Go on holiday for the sake of your sanity even if it feels like a mistake. Enjoy it, leave your phone in the hotel (God, I wish someone had told me that). Nobody really gives a sh*t about seeing the beach on Instagram. Not a single person.
6. Blog on the side. If, like me, you have a blog you want to keep going alongside your work understand that it's secondary to everything else - even if it's more fun. I see so many influencers fail because they applied too much time into the fluffy stuff (free lunches, wandering around Notting Hill having pictures taken). I realised, and accepted, pretty early on that my blog was never going to hit the big time. So I treat it like a hobby and it always comes second to One Roof. I do it at weekends, I meet my photographer once a month, and I bash out all the content for the month in one go. Is it hard? Yeah. Does it pay itself back twenty times over? Hell yes. I haven't paid for a face cream or a pair of shoes for five years... It's really rather excellent. It took time though, I blogged (and paid for all my stuff) for years before anyone gave me anything. Never lose that, never expect to be constantly paid because that's where audiences get fed up.
7. Watch Scandi Crime Dramas in the evenings. Sounds weird, but I find these amazing because they are subtitled and you have to watch the screen and can't glance at your phone or be distracted. You have to concentrate 110% which means you forcibly switch off.
8. Get an Accountant (unless you are one). Oh my lord. There are so many forms and things you have to do, my brain exploded under the weight of it all. Hiring someone for a day a month at the beginning was the best advice I was given. I honestly think I'd have lost the plot.
9. Have a cry, and a bath. A new business is like a new baby (from what I can gather). The first month is precious but mental. Everyone is so excited for you, but when push comes to shove, it's down to you to keep it alive. Just when you think it all calms down and you can sleep through the night they throw you a curve ball. Leaving the house is a challenge. You never have time for yourself. You eat whatever is available. Washing? Pah, only when you have people around you who won't judge. Sleep... sure. It will pass, and the sooner you can force in some structure and some pragmatism the better. Also, call your best friend. Because she won't mind you telling her that you're in your clothes from a week ago and you just cried over needing to take the bins out. She'll still be really proud you're going for it.
10. Gin. Say no more.
Lastly, but very importantly, get a bl**dy backpack. Seriously. All that working from your kitchen table, in coffee shops and legging it from meeting to meeting is not good for you at all. In all seriousness I ended up at a physio at one point who told me one shoulder was 3 inches higher than the other, because I'd been lugging my laptop over my shoulder. I can very much recommend this one - and also recommend paying South Molton Street a visit. Or, you can visit their online store and use the hashtag #JPG20 to get 20% off the Jean Paul Gaultier collection.

As followers of my Instagram will already know, a couple of weekends ago I went down to Barnsley House in the Cotswolds with Claire to shoot a project for L.K.Bennett. I chose the hotel having been there before, I went down last year and had a brilliant time but more importantly knew that the gardens would be the perfect place to shoot the outfits I'd picked out. Come and have a look...

I've worked with L.K.Bennett since the very beginning of my blog and for that reason they hold a really special place in my heart. I have small feet and struggle with heels because I don't have a lot of foot raise off the ground! Their Floret style works like an absolute dream for me. I don't know how they do it, but they're the only classic heel style I can wear all day without getting uncomfortable and swear by them. I can't count the number of times I have tried other styles and quickly reverted back to the Floret, also the pairs I have from years ago are still going strong so they really are worth the value. Any way, I am hugely digressing - this post is focussing on their Fitzroy Collection and L.K.Bennett's clothing offering as much as the footwear...

From wearing their shoes so much, I've naturally progressed into wearing their clothes as L.K.Bennett's collections have developed. It's been really great to see, I think there was a pivotal moment about three years ago when they created a particular floral print midi skirt. It was everywhere; hands down "the piece" people wanted for fashion week. That led to me taking a closer look at everything else. Their blazers are always good; if you're ever after a premium basic for work you should always consider them as they're really very good.

You guys already know I choose their dresses a lot for events, I love the fit and they work for lots of occasions so I don't mind the premium price point. For this shoot though I wanted to show you pieces that were more suitable for off-duty outfits because I don't think things like their knitwear get enough credit. This navy knit is a brilliant staple, I always get compliments when I wear it. It's smartly cut so is perfect for weekends away as you can throw it on during the day, and dress up with trousers or well cut denim and heels in the evening. I've obviously only owned this one for a few weeks, but other knits I have from them (my favourite is now 4 years old) are still going strong even though I treat them terribly and wash them on the wrong setting all the time...

Skirts are trickier for me and the fact the two featured in this post fit me and I feel good in them says a lot because I am painfully fussy. I am quite short (5 foot 4 inches) with a bum and hips, and my legs aren't my favourite part so I really need a skirt to fit me (not dig, flatter, etc) if it's going to leave the house. This one is brilliant and when I picked it out for the shoot I had everything crossed that it would work because I'm trying to wear more green and wanted something I could wear throughout the summer that was a bit smarter than the cotton ones I already own.
In short it's perfect. I love it dressed down with outfits like this but also would wear with a white shirt and heels to the office. I love that they coordinate with the trainers that have the green detail on the back. In fact I love the trainers full stop. I'm wearing them as I type and - again - have had so many compliments and questions about them. They're super comfortable, somehow smarter than a sports-brand pair - but a hell of a lot more reasonable than some of the other premium brands. Find them here, they come with green, red or blue detail at the back.

Now, the next outfit is almost my textbook style. Stripes, midi skirt and flat sandals. I already owned the sandals before the shoot and have been wearing them for months. They are hands down one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I have ever worn and I'll tell anyone who will listen. Unusually for sandals I didn't get any blisters or marks on their first wear and they just seem to get better every time I wear them. Tan sandals are for me a complete essential for summer, and I love how the colour goes with raffia and the buttons on the skirt... Find them here.

The skirt was the piece that leaped at me when I first saw the Fitzroy collection (there is also a red and white stripe version I'd recommend taking a look at, here) because I knew from previous experience of L.K.Bennett's skirts it'd fit me like a glove. Before the blog I was so hesitant to wear skirts of this length, but I've learnt that as long as the come in at the waist and ideally have buttons down the middle they can be really flattering.

I love the skirt with the stripes, but I've since worn it with blue denim shirts, the navy knit in the previous outfits and various scrappy tops for daytime and absolutely love it. I feel really good it in, helped mainly by the belt detail at the top and the thickness of the fabric meaning it can give you a really good silhouette.

I already owned on this raffia bag and you'll most likely have seen it on my Instagram because I've used it a lot. I use L.K.Bennett for tote and clutch bags quite a lot (remember the stampede when the Mariel cross body bags first came out?) but this is quite different from them and I really love it. What I noticed most is the quality; lots of these raffia bags fall apart but this one is structured really well and keeps its shape. I can say that from experience as I accidentally left it at the bottom of my suitcase when I went to Sri Lanka and it came out looking like new despite being crinkled up for a long haul flight...

Stripes wise, if you didn't know L.K.Bennett did them you really should. This isn't my first breton-style from the brand and I doubt it'll be my last. Having tried and tested hundreds of styles from various places I have to say that their ones are some of the best - and as a really boring but hopefully useful fact; even if you tumble dry them they come out without a crease.

Both these outfits were so fun to wear but the best thing about all of the pieces is that I'll wear them all lots with things I have in my wardrobe. They're all really good staples! As an additional thing, if you are looking for a weekend away I really can't recommend Barnsley House enough. The gardens are gorgeous, our room was absolutely stunning and the hot pool and spa area was gorgeous to sit out in - if you fancy it have a look here (also really recommend the lamb if you have dinner there).
